Thinking Beyond Borders - Translating Learning into Action

Over the past 60 years, the world’s population has tripled. Farmers and scientists have used new technologies to increase crop yields to meet these growing food needs. However, these changes in farming techniques often bring pollution, impoverish small farmers, leach the land of crucial nutrients, and endanger the safety of our food supply.

Investigate how a nation of roughly one billion people, with a long history of massive famines, is working to maintain high crop yields while making their farms more sustainable. Live and work with rural farming families. Conduct research with a community-based team of scientists finding ways to make agriculture safer, more sustainable, and more profitable for local farmers.

WomenExperience cities with millions of people and villages of just a few hundred, camels in the desert and the Himalaya Mountains, and a mix of five major religions. Dig deeper into the country by visiting Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram. Join a community at play during the local kite festival. See the rich culture of one of humanity’s oldest civilizations.
