Thinking Beyond Borders - Translating Learning into Action

Sub-Saharan Africa has seen dramatic changes to its landscape and ecosystem over the past 200 years. Habitats have been altered or destroyed, and large mammals have been targeted by hunting. In response, governments and ecologists have created reserves as protected homes for the native species to live as they normally would.

Giraffes in Kruger National ParkUn-caged and un-fenced, native species including elephant, lion, antelope, giraffe, and buffalo roam throughout Addo National Park. Cruise slowly through the park from the safety of a vehicle to witness animals living naturally. Photograph baboons sitting below the baobab tree or watch a heard of elephant cross the road, mothers with young carefully protected.

At night, camp at protected sites and share the stories of the day in front of the braai, the South African barbeque. Sample the various forms of biltong, a jerky made of animals like antelope and emu.
