Thinking Beyond Borders - Translating Learning into Action

South African School Children

HIV/AIDS is our global society’s most critical health crisis. With death tolls in the millions in sub-Saharan Africa alone, rural and urban communities alike face the threat of collapse. Victims include parents, teachers, nurses, and doctors, leaving many wondering what will happen to the generation left behind.

Investigate how a country recovering from decades of the racist Apartheid system is attempting to address the needs of those infected with and those affected by the disease. Work in a center caring for AIDS orphans. Help build and maintain the services the center provides to educate and offer new economic opportunities to the surrounding community.

Experience gorgeous coastline, calm and quiet expanses of grassland, and a deep culture featuring a mix of races and tribal communities. Dig deeper into the country by visiting a generations-old family farm. Experience the rich music and dance history of enduring regional cultures. Create art with young South Africans expressing their fears and hopes for the future.
