While traveling the world teaches many things, perhaps the greatest lessons are what students learn about themselves. During the final six weeks of the program, students work with the group to process their learning and further explore the relationship of the US to the rest of the world.
Meet with representatives from the World Bank, United Nations and International Monetary Fund, and see first-hand the work of the world’s largest development agencies. Examine urban United States communities with a sociologist and question if the US is a “developed nation” for all of its citizens. Participate in culminating discussions and synthesize this learning into powerful conclusions. Create a formal multimedia Presentation of Learning that communicates your understanding of both the development challenges abroad and your personal growth experience while on the program.
Students share their Presentations of Learning with education and philanthropy groups to raise awareness around these challenging global development issues and funds for the organizations that hosted their learning abroad. Speak out, inspire peers, discuss ways to incorporate these new perspectives into daily life, and prepare for the process of re-entering life in the US. Attend the TBB graduation with family and celebrate the work of the group as conscious agents of change.
